Trying to cool down the heat? How about heading to Hart Park!  Hart Park is one of the most popular parks in Bakersfield for entertainment. It might be the oldest, but it had opened a world of entertainment and attraction in this city.  It is located It eight miles northeast of Bakersfield on the Alfred Harrell Highway. Hart Park is one of Kern County’s oldest parks. This park includes children’s playgrounds, and fishing spots. It is a large park in which residents could use to escape from the summer heat. This particular park has a large river and a lake in which many families go to cool down the heat. Hart Park itself can bring a lot of joy in families.  The park offers a lot of different activities that not only children can entertain themselves, but also adults. No matter what, there is always something to do in this popular park. Many families come to this park to enjoy themselves and keep themselves fresh in the river or lake. There are a variety of ways that you can keep yourself cool in this park. Hart Park includes a lot of trees which brings a lot of shade and helps the park maintain fresh. So what better than keeping yourself cool and entertained in this wonderful park. So whenever you feel like beating the heat, heading to Hart Park might be the best solution!

Annie Williams, 34, who lives in Bakersfield, had brought his 18 month old son, Carson to play in this playground.

The Beale Park is considered a place of entertainment for a particular family. On Tuesday afternoon, April 23th, a family was entertaining themselves in this park.

According to Williams’ mom, he enjoys playing in the playground and watching other kids play.

Attending a Special Dinner

          The annual International Dinner took place at California State University, Bakersfield on Friday, April 12. The event was coordinated by The International Students Club and the Bakersfield community was invited. The International Dinner included many different forms of entertainment such as: live music and dances from different cultures. The location of the event took place in The Runner Café.

            Elizabeth Rosas, 22, a student from CSUB, joined the international celebration. She said that CSUB events had always been her interest because she likes to be involved with new activities at the school.

            Rosas said she went with some friends who are currently attending CSUB. She and her friends like to attend to school events because they like to be in the “school spirit,” she said.

            “It was such a great and interesting night because I learned about different cultures,” Rosas said.

            According to Dagmara Kanowski, a Coordinator from International Students and Programs at CSUB, the Annual International Dinner is the biggest fundraising event for the International Students club.

“Students from all over the world gather together to cook and serve their national dishes. They also prepare an artistic program – each year has different theme and program will follow it,” Kanowski said.

“I don’t know how many years it has been organized. I know it grew in the last 3 years, I would say that it has been in place since 2001 at least”, Kanowski said.

The Entertaining Dinner

The annual International Dinner took place at California State University, Bakersfield on Friday, April 12. This particular event was organized by the International Students Club to which many people attended. Not only was the CSUB community invited, but also all Bakersfield community. Tickets were sold for $15 in the Programs Office from CSUB.  The International Dinner had included variety of traditional foods, music, and much more entertainment included. The location of the celebratory dinner took place at the CSUB Campus in the Runner Café from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

            Elizabeth Rosas, 22, a student from CSUB had attended the international celebration. She said that the people who joined the dinner were enjoying themselves with all the entertainment in the celebration.

            “It was such an interesting night, and I’m glad I attended to this celebration,” Rosas said.

The Attractions of Bakersfield

 

            According to many people, Bakersfield is boring and there’s hardly nothing to do. Bakersfield is known for a place that does not have as much entertainment as other particular cities; however, it all depends on everyone’s own perspectives.

Bakersfield itself is a small town, but even in the smallest town there is always something to do. There might not be as much entertainment, but I believe that there are some entertaining places in this town whether is to go out and eat, dance, shop, etc.

Believe it or not, there’s a lot you can do in Bakersfield!

In many cases, it depends with what people you surround yourself with. For example, when my friends and I go out, anywhere we go, we make the most fun out of it.

It might not be a big city like Los Angeles, but there are always things to do in this town.

Marie Fonseca, 22, a junior from California State University, Bakersfield, said “I usually check on the newspaper and I always see new events, festivals, concerts, plays, etc. Maybe people don’t quite check because it doesn’t appeal to them, but there is a lot to do in Bakersfield.”

Usually is the young adult age group that says that Bakersfield is boring and “lame”, but there are so many fun places to go to especially in Downtown.

            Bakersfield might be as exciting as big and popular cities such as: Los Angeles or San Diego, but it is sure a way more exciting place than any other smaller

towns. Many people from smaller towns such as: Wasco, Shafter, Arvin, Taft, come to Bakersfield for more entertainment.

Bakersfield is definitely not a boring place because if you are with people you like to be surrounded with, anywhere you go can be as exciting!
