Celebrate California State University 5k Fun Run/Walk

California State University, Bakersfield is 5K fun run and walk will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 8 a.m. The event will be held at CSUB’s student Recreation Center. Kris Grappendorf, an event organizer, says that the reason for creating such a fun event is to boost hard working students before the start of the first midterm.

No matter the weather the race will start at 8 a.m. The pre-registration entry fee is $20 and on race day it is $22. The race will start at the SRC and run through campus. T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 120 registrants and Breakfast is included in the registration fee and there will be a raffle following the event. The registration deadline is April 22 and on race day registration is also available from 7 to 8 a.m.

Grappendorf said, ‘Bring the kids while you run or walk, let them enjoy a unique experience of age and skill appropriate activities led by the Physical Education and Kinesiology Department faculty and students’. She also said that the kid’s activity program will be located in the CSUB Old Gym for children ages 5 to 10. Application forms must include the number of children coming to the kid activity program.

I want to participate because it will allow me to do something else besides school. Moreover, I like sports and running is one of my favorites said Juan Rodriguez, a full-time math student at CSUB.

The race is a part of the annual Celebrate CSUB open house event and there will be events held in Runner Park such as Chemistry Circus, Children’s Center books sale and also dance marathon for the children’s miracle network. In addition, there will be circle painting for a community art project and a Student Union spring carnival includes a bounce house, food booths and activity centers. Moreover, for kids there will be an event called “Kids for Solar Energy” by Sierra Middle School students. During Celebrate CSUB event, a pancake breakfast will be served between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. After that, there will be a Residence Halls bar be cue where free hot dogs will be served between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. A Staff Forum luncheon and Student Union food booths will also be open on that day as well.
